Bio
Dr. Walling’s practice includes services for clients involved with Workers Compensation Board, Veterans Affairs Canada, Child and Family Services, and other systems where psychological injury, trauma, and recovery planning are central concerns.
Dr. Walling has substantial forensic expertise and extensive experience providing risk assessment, intervention, and consultation in matters involving sexual, violent, and antisocial behaviour across child, adolescent, and adult populations. Her forensic background includes work with high-risk and high-need sexual and violent offenders, co-facilitation of treatment for intellectually impaired adult male sex offenders, risk assessment and crisis intervention in correctional settings, and participation in forensic psychology training at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health.
A major focus of Dr. Walling’s practice is work with youth and families. She has provided assessment and treatment for children and adolescents in hospital-based anxiety services, completed parental capacity assessments, and delivered training and consultation on trauma-related disorders in youth, evidence-based case planning for children and adolescents who have engaged in harmful sexual behaviour, and supporting foster caregivers of youth with complex trauma.
Her work reflects a strong understanding of the developmental, family, and system factors that shape risk and resilience in young people. Drawing on experience in child, adolescent, adult, and forensic settings, she helps clients, caregivers, and service systems develop practical, evidence-based plans that address trauma symptoms, safety concerns, emotional and behavioural dysregulation, and long-term functioning.
In adult practice, Dr. Walling also provides treatment to first responders, victim-service professionals, and other adults exposed to trauma and occupational stress. She has delivered invited training to Winnipeg Police Service on trauma-informed care, burnout, vicarious trauma, and compassion fatigue, and in therapy she integrates Cognitive Behavioural Therapy with DBT-informed, mindfulness-based, acceptance-based, and compassion-focused strategies to support recovery from trauma, anxiety, and work-related stress.
